2020 Photography Review

Where to start? Obviously, 2020 hasn’t been the best year for Landscape Photographers!  Confined to our four walls for most of the year. Amidst the turmoil I did find a few opportunities to venture out and about with the camera.  Not as far afield as I would of liked, to Scotland for our yearly holiday would have been the dream.  So, sorry to disappoint, no beautiful glens and mountains in the collection. So here they are, my favourite 12 from […]

K&F Concept Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate Review

A fresh delivery from K&F Concept this week, something I’ve been looking forward to trying out for some time.  The K&F Concept Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate. So, what is an Arca-Swiss Plate anyway? Back in the 90’s a company called Arca-Swiss decided to create a secure, standardised locking mechanism for cameras and tripods.  The system consists of a mounting plate for the camera with 45° dovetail edge which fits securely into a corresponding vice like clamp on the tripod head.  […]

Sunset Visitor

Photography has been hit and miss over the last few months during these turbulent times.  Not a lot of opportunity to venture much further than the local lanes and footpaths to walk our Border Collie. This evening whilst wandering the footpaths overlooking Rastrick we were gifted some lovely sunset colours.  Silhouetted against the sunset a little feathery visitor came by to tweet at us.   It’s little moments like this when you have the camera to hand that really make […]

2020 Photo Challenge

This year I’m taking part in a 53 week photo challenge.  One subject per calendar week. Aside from the more planned out landscape and portrait work, sometimes it’s a struggle to find inspiration in the every day.  Having a pre-designed list of subjects is a big help and will hopefully stir up some creativity. I’ll be posting the weekly shots in a gallery on this blog post, as well as on my regular social media feeds.  The posts will be […]

Reflective Softbox Umbrella Try Out

Trying out a different modifier today. A Reflective Softbox Umbrella, I normally work with a shoot-through umbrella as it gives a nice diffused light as well as a nice octagonal catch light in the eye. Florence was kind enough to sit for a few test shots for me. The umbrella is about 90cm so it’s a good ratio to the subject, giving a pleasant diffused soft light. My only initial reservation is the Speedlite is quite prominent in the catch […]

K&F Concept 78.75 Inch Aluminium Photograph Light Stand Review

The nice people over at K&F Concept were nice enough to send me over their K&F Concept 78.75 Inch Aluminium Photograph Light Stand to use and review. Light stands are an essential part of any portrait photographers kit bag.  We’d never get the final shots if we didn’t have anything to hold all those flashes, strobes, umbrellas and soft-boxes. The light stand is made of aluminium alloy and is very sturdy, and states it can hold up to 4Kg.  The […]

K&F Concept Super Hard Nano-L UV Filter Multi Coated Review

You may have used a UV filter before, you may have not. If you come from the film world you will definitely be familiar with their use. These pieces of glass reduce the amount of ultraviolet light entering the camera which would in the film world, result in better colours. Modern digital cameras just aren’t as susceptible to issues with UV light. So why would you use one? Well, they can have a second important purpose. Protection. You’ve invested your […]
