Photography Books

Photography Books

For a very long time I have had the urge to produce a photography book. The dream has always been, a big, chunky table book.

Big ambitions, so best start slightly smaller!

The Long Exposure

My first foray into the world of self-publishing resulted in this limited edition zine comprising 24 pages of beautifully calming black and white, long exposure imagery of water.

Each A5 zine is printed on 24 pages of 200gsm silk paper, and wrapped in a paper cover of 350gsm silk with a perfect edge binding, with no staples.

To complement the release of The Long Exposure, I wrote a blog piece ‘How I published my first photography zine‘ which attempts to describe my thoughts and the process I went through to create the zine.  Hopefully it is a useful tool for other photographers who would like to self publish.

The Long Exposure sold out of it’s original 20 copy run, so a 2nd edition of 20 was also released.

The Long Exposure is present in the Biblioscapes Library – https://biblioscapes.com/library/the-long-exposure

All print editions there will ever be are now out there in the world.  Thank you all so much for believing in the work!

Trees - a photographic exploration

After Long Exposure my second favourite subject is trees, in particular the ‘Lone Tree’.  My most favourite lone tree was the inspiration for the cover of the zine.

I wanted to explore this ubiquitous element of the British landscape.  It’s almost impossible even in an urban area to not see a tree within your field of vision.

I collated more than 40 photographs, and spent a good length of time carefully arranging the images across 24 pages, to explore the subtle details of trees.

The centre of the zine includes a 2 page panoramic tree scape.

Each A5 zine is printed on 24 pages of 200gsm silk paper, and wrapped in a cover of 350gsm silk paper with a perfect edge binding.

After Trees was published I was contacted by Euan Ross to participate in his long running podcast ‘Biblioscapes In Discussion‘ where we discussed my photography and the Trees zine.

If any copies remain, Trees can be purchased from https://www.shutterspot.co.uk/product/trees-a-photographic-exploration-zine/.

In The Headlights

My third printed zine, titled ‘In The Headlights’ was conceived as curated collection of my favourite long exposure vehicle light trail photographs.

The collection stems from my love of long exposure photography, covering a period of almost ten years where I experimented with many lens, filters and compositions.

The centre of the zine includes a 2 page panoramic image of a sunset over the M62 taken from the famous Scammonden Bridge.  The image also forms the cover artwork for the zine.

Each A5 zine is printed on 24 pages of 200gsm silk paper, and wrapped in a cover of 350gsm silk paper with a staple binding.

If any copies remain, In The Headlights can be purchased from https://www.shutterspot.co.uk/product/in-the-headlights-zine/

Grass - 8 page mini zine - self print

A little experiment as I’ve never tried to do a self print booklet.

The mini-zine shows 7 images of grass from my local walk.  Style inspired heavily by the magnificent 1.4 Miles by Matt Parker

I found a folding guide online (tellatale.org.uk) which shows how to cut and fold the sheet to make a booklet.

You can download the PDF for free below if you would like to enjoy a little bit of nature.
