K&F Concept 100mm ND8 3 Stop Neutral Density Square Filter

I’ve just taken delivery of the K&F Concept 100mm ND8 3 Stop Neutral Density Square Filter to add to my growing collection of K&F filters.  As expected, the ND8 arrived in the usual high quality packaging, well protected for transit in it’s sturdy faux leather case with magnetic catch. [rl_gallery id=”14526″] So what is an ND8 filter? Neutral density filters are available in different strengths/darkness which reduces by a specific number of stops of light.  The filters are labelled in […]

Reflective Softbox Umbrella Try Out

Trying out a different modifier today. A Reflective Softbox Umbrella, I normally work with a shoot-through umbrella as it gives a nice diffused light as well as a nice octagonal catch light in the eye. Florence was kind enough to sit for a few test shots for me. The umbrella is about 90cm so it’s a good ratio to the subject, giving a pleasant diffused soft light. My only initial reservation is the Speedlite is quite prominent in the catch […]

K&F Concept 78.75 Inch Aluminium Photograph Light Stand Review

The nice people over at K&F Concept were nice enough to send me over their K&F Concept 78.75 Inch Aluminium Photograph Light Stand to use and review. Light stands are an essential part of any portrait photographers kit bag.  We’d never get the final shots if we didn’t have anything to hold all those flashes, strobes, umbrellas and soft-boxes. The light stand is made of aluminium alloy and is very sturdy, and states it can hold up to 4Kg.  The […]

K&F Concept Super Hard Nano-L UV Filter Multi Coated Review

You may have used a UV filter before, you may have not. If you come from the film world you will definitely be familiar with their use. These pieces of glass reduce the amount of ultraviolet light entering the camera which would in the film world, result in better colours. Modern digital cameras just aren’t as susceptible to issues with UV light. So why would you use one? Well, they can have a second important purpose. Protection. You’ve invested your […]

Shutterspots No. 5: Loch Lomond

[rl_gallery id=”12229″] Loch Lomond.. it’s Scotland, don’t really need to single out one Loch, every single one is a photography treat. But anyway, let’s focus on this one, and my limited exposure to what is actually available. I’ve not been lucky enough to have been able to spend a great deal of time around the Loch so I only have two locations, but at each I managed to capture an image that I was really pleased with, one is perhaps […]

Shutterspots No. 4: Chemical Beach, Seaham

[rl_gallery id=”11401″] Chemical Beach, Seaham is a beautiful little cove just South of Seaham town centre. It’s not the main visitor beach so it’s always very empty, just the occasional beach fisherman or dog walker. The beach was at one point a tipping area for spoils from nearby Dawdon Colliery, and it’s the ‘Chaldron’ wheels from one of the colliery wagons which makes this location so famous. Along with the famous chaldron wheels, there are many other natural structures and […]

Shutterspots No. 3: M62 Motorway Trails

[rl_gallery id=”11355″] Long exposure, light trails, great fun! Being so close to the M62 motorway has been a constant source of inspiration for long exposure vehicle light trails. By no means are my suggested locations the only great places to capture the M62. I’m sure almost any bridge over the M62 will provide a suitable location for capturing some fantastic light trails. I would say that the Pennine area will obviously provide some fantastic landscape backdrops, but equally there are […]

Shutterspots No. 2: Lumb Hole Falls

[rl_gallery id=”11070″] Lumb Hole Falls is beautiful waterfall nestled in Crimsworth Dean, high above Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire.  It is a wonderful natural bowl into which the waterfall pours below and old stone bridge.  There are many great vantage points to capture the main waterfall.   The public footpath which winds it’s way across the dean and crosses the waterfall over the stone bridge offers ample locations for capturing the falls without too much strenuous effort. For those of a more […]
