K&F Concept Specialist SA255C1 Carbon Tripod Review

I’ve been using the K&F Concept TM2515T DSLR Camera Tripod Monopod Kit 60inch for a few years now and it has served me well as a handy, portable tripod. Landscape photography is my bread and butter and I have a particular fondness for rivers and waterfalls for long exposure photography so a sturdy, rigid tripod is an essential piece of the camera gear. I’ve just received the brand new K&F Specialist SA255C1 67inch Carbon Professional Tripod Monopod with 360 Degree […]

Shutterspots No. 6: Brighouse Weir and Sugden’s Mill

[rl_gallery id=”16940″] Staying very local for this shutterspot.  My local town, Brighouse.  It hosts the distinctive towers of Sugden’s Mill which in recent years have been purchased by the Rokt Climbing Gym.  The main Mill building backs on to the River Calder beside a weir.  At full flow, the weir is an impressive site. Photography Subjects Long exposure, water, sunrise, sunset, reflection, weir, flowing water Key Locations See the google map below for my points for nearby parking and for […]

Chiaroscuro and Architecture

I’ve always held a deep fascination with Black and White / Monochrome photography.  Something happens when a photograph is presented as black and white, without the distractions and emotional ties of colour. Monochrome works exceptionally well in portraiture, drawing the viewer in, letting them see the subject clearly.  I find that the same can be said for architectural photography. Remove the colour from urban and architectural photography and you gain an unobstructed view of the myriad angles and shapes. The […]

K&F Concept Magnetic Filter Set Review

It’s Sunday morning, it’s February, and I’m standing in a river in Yorkshire. Why? Yes, it’s a good question but thankfully with a well reasoned answer. I’m out testing the new K&F Concept Magnetic Filter Set. Ever since I first heard word of this product a few months ago, I was to put it mildly, pretty excited. Last week, a knock at the door, and the set was in my hands. I have been a fan of the K&F […]

K&F Concept KF13.084 Large DSLR Camera Backpack Review

After using the K&F Concept Fashion Backpack for a good few years now, it’s time for something fresh.  I need a larger backpack with extra space for more camera gear, so I’ve recently taken delivery of the K&F Concept KF13.084 Large DSLR Camera Backpack from the lovely people at Kent Faith. This is a big 25 litre backpack with plenty of storage, straps, pockets, meshes and a dedicated laptop pocket.  On first inspection you can immediately see that this bag […]

2020 Photography Review

Where to start? Obviously, 2020 hasn’t been the best year for Landscape Photographers!  Confined to our four walls for most of the year. Amidst the turmoil I did find a few opportunities to venture out and about with the camera.  Not as far afield as I would of liked, to Scotland for our yearly holiday would have been the dream.  So, sorry to disappoint, no beautiful glens and mountains in the collection. So here they are, my favourite 12 from […]

K&F Concept Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate Review

A fresh delivery from K&F Concept this week, something I’ve been looking forward to trying out for some time.  The K&F Concept Arca-Swiss Quick Release Plate. So, what is an Arca-Swiss Plate anyway? Back in the 90’s a company called Arca-Swiss decided to create a secure, standardised locking mechanism for cameras and tripods.  The system consists of a mounting plate for the camera with 45° dovetail edge which fits securely into a corresponding vice like clamp on the tripod head.  […]

Sunset Visitor

Photography has been hit and miss over the last few months during these turbulent times.  Not a lot of opportunity to venture much further than the local lanes and footpaths to walk our Border Collie. This evening whilst wandering the footpaths overlooking Rastrick we were gifted some lovely sunset colours.  Silhouetted against the sunset a little feathery visitor came by to tweet at us.   It’s little moments like this when you have the camera to hand that really make […]

2020 Photo Challenge

This year I’m taking part in a 53 week photo challenge.  One subject per calendar week. Aside from the more planned out landscape and portrait work, sometimes it’s a struggle to find inspiration in the every day.  Having a pre-designed list of subjects is a big help and will hopefully stir up some creativity. I’ll be posting the weekly shots in a gallery on this blog post, as well as on my regular social media feeds.  The posts will be […]

K&F Concept 100mm ND8 3 Stop Neutral Density Square Filter

I’ve just taken delivery of the K&F Concept 100mm ND8 3 Stop Neutral Density Square Filter to add to my growing collection of K&F filters.  As expected, the ND8 arrived in the usual high quality packaging, well protected for transit in it’s sturdy faux leather case with magnetic catch. [rl_gallery id=”14526″] So what is an ND8 filter? Neutral density filters are available in different strengths/darkness which reduces by a specific number of stops of light.  The filters are labelled in […]
